LEARNING ENGLISH

We held the first English Classes at our office Saturday mornings from April to June 16, 2018.  The curriculum was created by Candace Ducharme and the program was first administered by Myrla Boesch and then Sonya Damon.   It could not have happened without our wonderful volunteers:  Jim & Candace Ducharme, Sonya Damon, Frances Cunningham, Mindy Mathius, Phyllis Nordhoff, Myra King and Jennifer Moore   The classes are open to all students of  Chuburn á...not just those in our Program  The students who attended were:  Axel, Brigitte, Dana, Dariana, Eli, Habacuc,  Josué , Laura Patricia, Meily, Mia, Marintya, & Ruth   It was such a success that Candace and Sonya are going to offer it again with the help of volunteers on Saturday mornings for one hour from October thru to next June...2018-19. New Computers & Faster Internet for Homework

CROWD FUNDING SUCCESS:  WE HAVE 10 NEW DESKTOPS AND IMPROVED INTERNET FOR STUDENTS TO USE FOR HOMEWORK!.. and not just our students in the program, but any Chuburná Puerto student! GRACIAS to Everyone who made a donation to our Crowd Funding Effort and who encouraged others to do the same.   Our goal was 100,000 pesos for the purchase of 10 new computers.  We raised 57,000 and will match that amount with funds raised at our Fashion Show.  Gracias to Tony Hugh for creating the Crowd Funding site and video which so very well depicted our work.  Gracias  to Israel Roch é  Nadal, in Progreso for working with us and to Director Nora Nevers for taking the lead on this and working with him.  Israel built the computers to match the needs of the students including expandable memory. Boutique Sale in Chuburna Puerto 2018

Clothes not Sold at the Fashion Show find a new home with families in Chuburn á Puerto. We hold a local Boutique Sale so your donations of clothing are Gifts that Keep on Giving for 10 pesos each for a total of 5210 pesos.  Families know the proceeds from this sale always goes to the computers and internet in the office that their children use for homework.  IT IS A VERY POPULAR EVENT! THE CHILDREN LOVE TO HELP SORT AND ORGANIZE THE HANGERS.. THIS YEAR OVER 500  HANGERS!!!!!! THE FREE BOOKS IN SPANISH WERE A HIT WITH THE KIDS.. BOOKS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE HERE  GRACIAS  AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED SET UP AND MANAGE THE SALE.   Till Next Year!... Think of us when you are cleaning out your closets...

Fashion Show /Thank You Luncheon 2018

She´s Gone Country  Thursday, January 25, 2018 GRACIAS to over 65 volunteers and the 264 guests who attended for another successful Fundraiser netting over 131,700 pesos....WOW!   We especially want to acknowledge the Committee Chairpeople who with their crews of volunteers ensure a successful show year after year:  Fashion Show Coordinator: Jo-Anne Hugh Models/Dressers/Hair/Makeup: Sherri Sullivan Boutique: Frances Cummings Silent Auction: Nora Nevers Bar: Francois Cloutier Waiters: Karen Cloutier Decorating: Leslie Colvin   We will use some of the funds to match the Crowd Funding Income for the purchase of new desk top computers/monitors/keyboards for the students to use at the Apoyo Office for their homework.  The 10 stations are available to all students of the village, not just the ones in our program.  Part of the balance will be put into our Contingency Fund and the rest allocated to other student related expens...
