UPDATE ON THE COMPUTER CENTRE FOR CHUBURNA PUERTO STUDENTS

Construction is fast and furious at the Tele-Secundaria School in Chuburna 
&
 Emails between the World School in Boston and ourselves are many as we plan for the August 9th arrival of 9 wonderfully generous members of the School...each carrying 4 large pieces of luggage full of donated computers and monitors.

They will install the computers, networked so a supervising adult can make sure they are only used for school work; provide computer training for Peer Leaders and the incoming Grade 7 students; as well as, conduct sports, fitness, ecology clinics for the children.

Contractor Don Lauro from Chuburna Puerto and a big supporter of our program, fit us into his busy schedule and is donating a portion of the labour costs.

So far we have received donations for the air conditioner and the steel door in the amount of 4,400 pesos. 

 One of the donors has issued a challenge!

 50 donations @ 300 pesos
to pay for 
the steel door, windows & protectors.

Charitable Donation Receipts will be provided by the World School, on our behalf, as they are a registered Charity. 

 Donations of time are also appreciated as we will be looking for painters within the next 2 weeks.

GETTING 100 STUDENTS READY FOR SCHOOL IS NO SMALL FEAT!!! Beverly and Jo-Anne begin to buy supplies in April and May for 71 backpacks and shoulder bags. Our Money Manager Extraordinaire, Beverly,  organizes envelopes: of information for all the students explaining what is happening on BackPack Day and including the cards they need to order their uniforms and shoes from local stores and the middle school. with money to reimburse our 21 COBAY high school students for their registration fees and their books. with money to reimburse our 11 CETMAR high school students for their registration fees with money to be given to students who attend specialized high schools in Merida.    NOTE: all students provide receipts for their expenses in order to continue receiving money for subsequent semesters. Joyful Project #2

Hello everyone.    This Blog is about the 2nd Joyful Project we are able to undertake with the funds raised at this and last year's Fashion Shows.  As you know, the Apoyo Program matches sponsors with students. However,  we  will never be able to ensure every student has a sponsor.  Therefore, we  do something each year for the benefit of a broader group of children in the village.  EDUCACIÓN INICIAL ( the first education) This drop-in program is offered Mon, Wed, Thurs. and Fridays from 4:00 - 7:00. Ten to 15 moms and their infants-3 year old children attend.  Comfortable on new mats and carpets playing with our new toys The 2 teachers receive $1,000 pesos ( $80.00) a month from a government fund to pay for: Rent: 400 pesos or about $32.00 Supplies including drinking water, toilet paper, cleaning products, arts and crafts materials, toys etc.: 300 pesos or about $24.00  Wages: for working 24 hours each teacher receiv...
