Primary School Face Lift: Mejoramiento de la Escuela Primaria

The Primary School in Chuburná Puerto has not been eligible for federal improvement grants.  This has changed!!!... The federal government grant pays for upgrades to surfaces, electrical, plumbing but not new construction.  This was unfortunate because two of the classrooms are so small the students have to climb over desks to get to their own.  

La Escuela Primaria de Chuburná Puerto no había sido elegible para subsidios federales de mejoramiento. ¡¡¡Esto ha cambiado !!! ... El subsidio del gobierno federal paga las mejoras a las superficies, electricidad, plomería, pero no las nuevas construcciones. Esto fue lamentable porque dos de las aulas son tan pequeñas que los estudiantes tienen que subir sobre los escritorios para llegar al suyo.

SOLUTION: A partnership with our Program... We paid for doubling in size of the two classrooms and the School is taking care of upgrading the rest of the school. 

Solución: Una asociación con nuestro programa ... Pagamos por duplicar el tamaño de las dos aulas y la escuela se está encargando de mejorar el resto de la escuela.

Pictures say a thousand words...ENJOY knowing your students are going to be so surprised when they finally return to school to an upgraded, clean and safe place to learn. 

Las imágenes dicen más que mil palabras ... DISFRUTE sabiendo que sus estudiantes se van a sorprender cuando finalmente regresen a la escuela a un lugar mejorado, limpio y seguro para aprender.

Brand new Aluminum windows that open and will have screens... So much more light in the classrooms. Ventanas de aluminio completamente nuevas que se abren y tendrán mosquiteros ... Así que mucha más luz en las aulas.

In letters to sponsors some students would write they did not like the dirty, old bathrooms so these improvements are long overdue   
En cartas a los patrocinadores, algunos estudiantes escribían que no les gustaban los baños viejos y sucios, por lo que estas mejoras se necesitaban desde hace mucho tiempo

Meanwhile in the square across from the school, a new basketball court, soccer field, and other green spaces will be available to the students for their physical education classes and the library will have a brand new space in the building adjacent.

Mientras tanto en la plaza frente a la escuela la nueva cancha de baloncesto y otros espacios verdes estarán disponibles para los estudiantes para sus clases de educación física y la biblioteca tendrá un nuevo espacio en el edificio adyacente.

STUDYING ON LINE.. ESTUDIANDO EN LÍNEA ..

Students watch the national TV program broadcasting the lessons for their grade and subject.  Their teacher sends homework by WhatsApp... it needs to be printed, completed and a photo of it sent back to the teacher.  This requires that the student have a television, a cell phone and sufficient data. 

 Los estudiantes ven el programa de televisión nacional que transmite las lecciones para su grado y materia.  Su maestro envía la tarea por WhatsApp ... necesita ser impresa, completada y una foto de la misma enviada al maestro.  Para ello se requiere que el alumno disponga de televisión, teléfono celular y datos suficientes.

We are working with Director Martin to ensure that a few primary students, not just our students but others from Chuburna, can work on-line at our computer centre.. They have no internet at home and parents cannot afford to buy the additional data needed on their cell phones.  Consequently they are failing which is unacceptable at any age but in Primary School!!!!

 Estamos trabajando con el Director Martin para asegurar que algunos estudiantes de primaria, no solo nuestros estudiantes sino otros de Chuburná, puedan trabajar en línea en nuestro centro de computación. No tienen internet en casa y los padres no pueden permitirse pagar los datos adicionales necesarios en sus teléfonos celulares.  En consecuencia, están reprobando, lo que es inaceptable a cualquier edad, incluso en la escuela primaria.

We continue to be blessed as a program with so many generous donors to ensure we have sufficient funds to support any  student of Chuburna Puerto who needs us.
